I've never been a big fan of resolutions, unless the idea of making one is to see just how well we can not adhere to it. So, to keep in line with the common theme of positive change, I'm trying a different approach for 09.
What follows are scenes that stood out in some of the movies I've seen. Some I found truly inspirational, others somewhat tear-jerking. Also among them are some that I found offensive, not because of the content, but because they struck a nerve in me somewhere.
Obviously, the following contains [SPOILERS]...
And so... the Top Ten List (well I actually have only 5), David Letterman style:
No. 5 Braveheart - Battle of Stirling
Mel Gibson gives the grand-daddy of motivational speech. Forget Aragorn at Black Gate. Forget Leonidas at Thermopylae. I reckon it was this scene that made it customary for any large scale conflict in film to have pep talks.
No. 4 Black Hawk Down - Ending Scene
Conversation between Eric Bana and Josh Hartnett at the end of the film. Anyone who has served in any military can understand the pain. You can almost feel Josh Hartnett breaking down.
No. 3 Shawshank Redemption - Mozart Scene
I remember watching this show on LD at Mat's place. This scene never gets old. This show never gets old.
No. 2 Good Night and Good Luck - Press Conference Speech
David Strathairn giving an awesome speech about how the media is gradually being reduced to a propaganda machine. George Clooney may suck as Batman, but he deserves praise for directing this.
No. 1 Rocky Balboa - Rocky Balboa vs Robert Balboa
Damn Stallone... now everytime I point the finger at someone else, I hear his freaking voice...
Screw resolutions. This time next year... if I can look back at Sly and not feel pissed, I'm making progress.
